Thinking back to our test drive review of the Lincoln MKZ, we wish we had spent more time talking about the interior design. Lincoln takes incredible pride in the talented artisans who shape their cars, and the MKZ represented the rebirth of the brand in a lot of ways. There was of course the split-wing grille and some more subtle nods to the classic Zephyr, but inside is where the designers really struck forward into a bold new direction.
The layout of the interior is meant to be open and inviting. The separation between driver and passengers has been diminished, and the space that remains is easily filled by relaxed conversation. It’s a space that is meant to be shared, one that should be experienced.
The center console is integral to making this feeling possible. Suspension bridges inspired the pass-through storage and center stack, and the absence of a traditional shifter makes a huge difference. Instead, the Push-Button Shift blends seamlessly into the rest of the controls, resting to the left of the console within easy reach of the driver’s fingers. This departure from convention clears the way for a more open environment, reducing clutter and creating a clean layout.
None of the design makes a difference without impeccable craftsmanship. A stunning attention to detail calls for the most immaculate materials available. Genuine wood trimming the instrument panel. Premium soft leather seating. Customizable ambient lighting. All of these elements come together to create an interior space worth spending a lot of time in.
Also, the THX® II Certified Audio System will knock your socks off.
