With word that an all-new Navigator will be coming sometime in the 2017 model year, it can be easy to overlook how excited we are for the 2015 Navigator that will be arriving in our showroom soon. In many ways, the Navigator created the luxury SUV segment, and it has remained in the Lincoln lineup while other cars come and go. It’s no surprise what an important car this is to the brand as a whole.
What Lincoln wants to emphasize is that the 2015 Navigator upgrades the previous model in ways that will benefit both loyal Navigator drivers as well as new adopters. On the outside, a total of two-hundred and twenty-two LEDs illuminate the vehicle, including a stretch taillight and jewel-like daytime running lights. Inside, drivers will be graced with Sync technology powered by Microsoft and MyLincoln Touch, the ultra-intuitive infotainment system.
Of course the biggest improvement comes in the form of the Navigator’s new 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. This twin-turbo direct-injected V6 engine makes 380 horsepower and 460 foot-pounds of torque as rated by the Society of Automotive Engineers. What’s remarkable about this engine is that it generates a much smoother torque curve than larger V8s. Also, the Navigator’s unique 4.10:1 rear-axle grants additional low-end torque for an optimized towing experience. All of this combines for best-in-class towing of 9,000 pounds.
Anyone who has concerns of a perceived downgrade from a V8 to V6 engine need only look at the numbers to understand what a technological leap forward the EcoBoost represents.
