We’ll say this for the paparazzi, they sure make it easy finding out who drives what.
A quick Google search for the folks listed above connects them with a variety of Lincoln models. By far the most popular vehicle was the Lincoln Navigator, which makes sense.
The Navigator is a big, comfortable SUV. For Hollywood celebrities, that means privacy and seclusion.
However, one of those listed above drives something other than a Navigator, and for that he deserves a special salute.
Dax Shepard—who is, in fact, NOT the guy from Garden State—drives a 1967 Lincoln Continental.
The Continental, pictured above, is a huge car. It weights 5,300 lbs.—almost three tons—and has a 700 horsepower engine. If you’re not a car person, take our word for it that this is a very powerful car,
The reason that Dax drives the Continental while his colleagues are driven in Navigators goes back to his childhood.
“I’m from Detroit,” Dax told Hot Rod magazine in 2013.
“My dad sold Fords for a living and my mom worked at the GM proving grounds in Milford.”
Dax’s mom eventually started her own company doing car launch publicity for GM. They needed someone to drift cars around corners for photographers, and because she trusted her son, Dax got the opportunity.
“By the time I was 16, I was sliding Corvettes and Impalas around corners for all the big magazines and driving for press people on Road America. I did that for 14 years.”
If that doesn’t convince you that Lincoln can be a fun brand to drive, we have one more tidbit.
The 1967 Continental that Dax drives? Lincoln is rebooting the model after a nearly 15-year absence.
As we’ve written before, Lincoln will reintroduce the Continental in 2016, though it will be the 2017 model (it’s confusing, we know, but that’s how the car business works).
Keep that in mind as you think about Lincoln in the future, and the next time you’re in the market, swing by to see what’s on hand. It might just surprise you.
