Lincoln likes to focus on art both when designing and discussing the vehicles in its lineup. Art serves as both something to be inspired by and something to aspire to. Lincoln designers can draw from visual art, architecture, and even music. That last one provides more of a challenge when it comes to tempering the sound of a particular vehicle. It’s a challenge that artistic vision can’t overcome alone, and in those instances, the only logical solution is to turn to science.
Enter Revel, a sound system guided by science and driven by passion. Last week Lincoln announced a ten year partnership with Harman to put the Revel system into its vehicles. The first to feature these life-changing speakers will be the next-generation MKX.
Lincoln and Revel engineers worked together to implement a point-source architecture within each Lincoln vehicle. This unique arrangement improves the accuracy of midrange and high-frequency sounds, allowing the individual details of a song to reach a passenger’s ears simultaneously. As a result, that passenger experiences a pure and authentic evocation, capturing the emotion as intended by the original performance.
Lincoln’s global director, Matt VanDyke, says that this collaboration with Revel is the next step in a commitment to building vehicles that exceed luxury expectations. “Revel is synonymous with the finest home speaker systems, and it’s that exceptional audio experience we want our Lincoln drivers to enjoy,” he said.
Much like modern vehicles, the Revel system also has three listening modes that drivers and their passengers can switch between. The default is traditional stereo. Then there is Audience, which recreates a concert experience, dissolving the walls of the vehicle to let sound reign free. Lastly, On Stage mode puts the vehicle’s inhabitants among the performance, distributing individual instruments throughout the cabin.
We are so excited to hear this collaboration first hand, and the day a Revel-equipped Lincoln arrives in our showroom can’t come soon enough. Clients will likely recognize the name Harman from Harman Kardon sound systems that appear in other cars. Let it be known that Revel is Harman’s finest sound system, and it has never appeared in any vehicle until now.
Revel will be available in Lincoln vehicles next fall. Read more about the sound system in the official press release at the Lincoln Media Center. If you have any questions until then, stop by Leith Lincoln in Raleigh.
