The 5 Best Raleigh Instagram Accounts for Something to Do

Remember how people use to talk about Facebook or Twitter before they became mainstream? That’s where we are with Instagram. It’s a social network that specializes in photos, and is a great way to learn more about the world.

Unlike Facebook and Twitter you can’t post links, articles, essays, or rants. Just photos. That makes it a more positive social network filled with cool pictures of just about anything you can imagine.

Why Instagram makes sense if you’re new in town

It’s also a great way to learn about a city, hence the title of this blog post. Instead of checking the local paper or blogs for things to do, you can simple follow the below Instagram accounts and begin receiving photos of interesting things around Raleigh.

You might learn about a new restaurant, coffee shop, park, event, business opening or closing, political campaign, city rule, interesting person, cooking idea, or more. Rather than wait on a newsletter or blog post to find things out, you can get more timely updates on Raleigh, one picture at a time.

Help us to find worthy additions

If you think we’ve missed an account worth following, leave us a comment on Facebook. Although we found several themed accounts, what we’re lacking is people who tell Raleigh’s story well without trying to make it an official thing.

Maybe you could become that person! If you like to try new things and are constantly on the move, out and about, meeting new people and going to interesting events, you’d be a terrific candidate. Variety is key to standout Instagramming, so you need a mixture of indoor/outdoors, people/landscapes, animals/lattes, parties/nature, and news/entertainment.

It’s a tall order to be sure, but at least now you have an idea about how to do it right.

Final note:

You know what we’re going to say: go easy on selfies, cats, coffee, the sky, pictures of your feet, and group shots, particularly of bars. Those are the tropes of photography and we don’t need any more of them. Find a new theme to explore like disc golf, geocaching, earl grey tea, flip-phone users, or people who wear shorts in the winter.

The point is to always keep your eyes open for new opportunities, and to mix it up.

Good morning RDU! I’m Margaret, I’m from Roanoke Rapids, NC but have lived in Raleigh since 2011. I went to Peace College after graduating High School but decided to take some time off from school. I became a nanny and I’ve been doing that ever since. I love being with the kids and getting to explore great spots for kids in the triangle. But since the baby I’m keeping today is too young to enjoy those spots just yet I’ll be showing you all some of my favorite spots. But first I need coffee out of my favorite mug. I’m going to do a quick plug- @campwillowrun has been a huge part of my life since 2003 and for the past two summers I’ve been a boat driver there. It is located in Littleton, NC. If you’re looking for a fun job for ten weeks where you get to share Jesus with 190 campers a week CWR is the place for you. And if you can’t work there how about sending your kids there? Registration forms go online soon! Thanks for following my day! Let’s do this! Photo by: @mlmartin17
